How Can We Partner You To Make Our Beaches more Sustainable?

Sustainable tourism is “tourism that takes full account of its current
and future economic, social and environmental impacts,
addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment
and host communities.”
UN Environment Program and UN World Tourism Organization.

The Challenge

A billion-dollar industry, tourism is vital for many economies around the world. In the host destinations, tourism boosts revenues, creates thousands of jobs, develops local infrastructure, and fosters cultural exchange. Yet the exponential growth of tourism, from 25 million annual international tourist arrivals in 1950 to a projected 1.8 billion in 2030, creates a substantial strain on our natural environment.

The unprecedented negative impacts of over-consumption, mismanagement of waste and large carbon footprint jeopardize the very environmental resources on which tourism itself depends.

ZOTEN is actively engaged in promoting initiatives that reduce the ecological footprint of beachside establishments in Greece, one of the country’s primary selling points in the tourist market. Through this, we aim to raise awareness of tourism’s impact on the environment, and by extension, raise awareness in the communities themselves: in short, to affect meaningful social, environmental and economic change.

Our Strategy

Our aim is to create a tailor-made sustainability policy to guarantee accountable and sustainable management of your beachside establishment, and keep your enterprise at the forefront of social change. We will navigate you through the steps needed to identify your sustainable position, understand how your stakeholders can benefit, and pinpoint the appropriate techniques required for the implementation of sustainable practices. Our mission is to provide you with the tools and know-how towards a more sustainable future for all.

At present, almost all the world’s oceans and seas are contaminated with microplastics. However, the Mediterranean Sea is the sixth bigger microplastic hotspot worldwide. The concentrations of polymers in
this region are approximately four times higher than in the North Pacific Ocean.

Implementation & Comms

ZOTEN has the knowledge and expertise necessary for the implementation of a sustainable tourist destination, including the daily operation of your establishment. Our comprehensive services include formulating the initial concept and the creation of your Sustainability Policy, training your team with skill-building exercises and implementing sustainable practices, and finally following up with measurements of performance and reporting, ensuring the lasting legacy of your business.

The impact of a sustainable beach bar reverberates long after the close of the tourist season. The experiences of your visitors will reach a global audience through Social Media, which also becomes a platform for you to communicate the pioneering initiatives you implement, inspiring a global shift in attitude toward environmental issues such as the destruction of marine ecosystems and climate change. The implementation of a robust sustainability policy will enhance your company’s image and improve your competitive advantage while making a huge difference in protecting future generations.
